The Surya Bahadur Thapa Foundation (SBTF) has been set up on behalf of Late Surya Bahadur Thapa who served as the Prime Minister of Nepal five times. The SBTF was established in 2016 as a not-for-profit and non-political organization.

The ancestral house of Late Surya Bahadur Thapa was built in Rana Period with Colonial Architectural style. With a symmetrical design and a formal courtyard, it was the largest residential building in eastern Nepal. This stately building only survives today as an inhabitable ruins due to bombing during the Maoist insurgency in 2004. The proposed information Centre which also serves as a museum to preserve the life of Late Surya Bahadur Thapa is built on top of the old foundations. Galleries shall showcase all his awards and lifetime achievements. Rest of the complex includes meeting room, office spaces, guest house, book shop and canteen for the visitors as well.
